Overview

Background & Policy context

Assessment of the results of the project ASTRA 2005/006 was provided. There was a need for provision of further tests for noise reduced pavements in urban areas and controlling, technical and physical development of the pavements.

Objectives

Results

Based on the findings of an extensive literature review and experience of the cantons with low-noise surfaces 12 surface types were identified and installed on new test tracks. In addition, 9 existing low noise surfaces were in the investigations involved. The test tracks are located in town centers (50 km/h).

At all test tracks were from 2004 to 2008 annually measured - technical and acoustic characteristics of the pavement. In 2007 a comprehensive final report was written.

The measurements carried out by 2007 were repeated in 2008, with CPX-measurements, which adds the acoustic homogeneity of the entire test track.

Innovation aspects

Comparison of two methods of pavements characteristics measurement.

Policy implications

Tool for decreasing of the traffic noise.
